Experiences

On daily basis, I engage myself in activities that prompt me to use the skills I learn in class and also engage with people around me in different ways. The experiences highlighted here have built both my technical and interpersonal skills and more of these will keep shaping me as an individual.

Student Academic Mentor

Student Academic Mentors at Swarthmore play an integral role in making the academic environment welcome for every student. Mentors support students to prepare for success at Swarthmore. As one of the mentors I work with students affiliated with Swarthmore’s Black Cultural Center. Through this role, I have the chance to reflect on my academic journey and what sets me for success and share it with the rest of the students. Through training I attend and interactions with my peers, I have grown in several aspects of life. I am constantly aiming to be a good listener because I can best support my peers if I listen to them attentively. The success of mentoring hinges on the relationship between the mentor and the mentee, and this relationship can only be fruitful if both parties are attentive to each other.

Career Peer Advisor

Career Peer Advisors at Swarthmore are students who support other students throughout their career pathways. Through this role, I help students identify their desired career opportunities and prepare their application documents. As a Career Peer Advisor, I built confidence and trust in my advising abilities because supporting students throughout their career explorations while I am on the same path sometimes can be tricky. However, I find motivation in the idea of being part of a team that empowers my fellow students to realize their dreams.

Technology Intern, Rwanda ICT Chamber

During the summer of 2021, I worked as an Intern at Rwanda ICT Chamber, an organization that brings together all commercial entities that fall under Rwanda’s Private Sector Federation. I was working with a team that was tasked to support small businesses that were affected by the pandemic to integrate technology tools in their daily activities. Through this internship, I got exposed to several technical areas in website development and digital marketing. In addition, I honed my team working and collaboration skills as I worked alongside a team of dedicated interns and other staff members.

Cofounder, Born2Serve

After  a careful reflection on ways to give back to my community, I decided to empower the youth in Rwanda. I confounded Born2Serve, an organization that aims to empower members of unprivileged communities. At Born2Serve, I am in charge of curating programs that our education department uses to build potential in the Rwandan youth. Those programs include one-on-one mentorships, summer boot camps, and career exploration programs. By supporting the education of the underprivileged youths, Born2Serve hopes to build a generation of leaders committed to building a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
